Debsan Design Center in Natick, Since 1947
Our StoryIn 1947, the journey of Debsan Wallpaper and Paint began when Betty and Joseph Greenberg moved into Natick, MA, planting the roots of their store at 32 Summer St. Accompanied by their two daughters, Debra and Sandy, they affectionately called the store Debsan.
Fast forward to 1967, a pivotal moment arose when Joe Feldman of R + L Furniture presented Joseph Greenberg with an opportunity that would shape Debsan's future. With unwavering faith in the business, Joe encouraged Joseph to relocate Debsan to the heart of downtown Natick Center at 25 Main St. In 1972, Ben Greenberg joined his parents in the family business, marking the beginning of a legacy that spans over five decades.
Today, Debsan enters its next chapter. The business is being proudly carried forward by a new family— a father-and-son team, Steve and Nick Murphy, who are excited to build on everything that's come before them.
With great respect for Debsan’s legacy, they are committed to preserving the values that have made it a trusted name in the community, while bringing a fresh perspective, new ideas, and an expanded vision for the future. Their goal is simple: to honor the past while thoughtfully evolving Debsan into a modern destination for design and continuing to serve the community for generations to come.
Debsan Design Center in Natick, then and now
Thank you for taking the time to read about Debsan Design Center in Natick. The store has helped people finish their homes since 1947, and every part of what we do today grew out of a small wallpaper and paint counter.
1947: a wallpaper and paint store on Summer Street
Debsan was founded in 1947 by Betty and Joseph Greenberg, who sold wallpaper and paint from a store at 32 Summer Street in Natick. It was a specialist shop: rolls of wallpaper, cans of paint and the advice that goes with choosing them. That combination of good products and honest help choosing them is still the core of the business, and wallpaper and paint are still sold here today.
1967: the move to downtown Natick Center
The next big step came through Joe Feldman of R+L Furniture, who encouraged Joseph Greenberg to move Debsan into downtown Natick Center, and in 1967 the store made the move. It has traded from the centre of town ever since.
1972: the next generation joins
In 1972 Ben Greenberg joined his parents in the business. From then on it was a business run by parents and son together.
2026: the Murphy family’s next chapter
In 2026 the Murphy family bought Debsan. Nick Murphy runs the store, and he and his father, Steve Murphy, are the father-and-son team carrying it forward. The family also owns Blinds & Designs and Window Works, and Debsan is the one store in that group that brings every line together: window treatments, drapery and fabrics, wallpaper, Benjamin Moore paint, and flooring and carpet.
The aim of the next chapter is to keep what has made Debsan a Natick fixture, the products and the help in choosing them, and to build on it. The showroom is being given a fresh look, and the free in-home consultation and professional measurement and installation sit at the centre of what the store offers.
Window treatments
Shades, shutters and blinds by Hunter Douglas, chosen in the showroom or at home.
Drapery and fabrics
Designer fabrics made up into drapery, from makers such as Kravet, Schumacher and Sanderson.
Wallpaper
The line Debsan started with, now from makers including Phillip Jeffries, Thibaut and York.
Flooring and carpet
Luxury vinyl, hardwood and carpeting, to finish the room from the ground up.
Still a Natick store
Debsan has spent its whole life in Natick, first on Summer Street and then in the centre of town. The town’s own houses tell you what the store has always worked on: Victorians and two-family homes close to the common, and the post-war capes and ranches that spread out toward Lake Cochituate. Each brings its own windows, walls and floors to solve. The same showroom now serves homes across MetroWest, but Natick is still where every project begins, and the door is open if you want to start there.
What the store does today
Walk into the showroom today and you can put a Hunter Douglas shade, a drapery fabric, a wallpaper, a Benjamin Moore colour and a flooring sample side by side. That is the reason a store like Debsan exists: a room works when its parts are chosen together, and that is far easier when they are all in one place. Our showroom page describes what is on the floor.
Projects can also begin in your own home. There is no charge for the in-home consultation, and we bring samples with us so the choices are made in your own light. We also measure and install, so the work fits the window or the wall it was chosen for. The 24 MetroWest towns we visit are listed on our service areas page.
Where to go next
The best way to see what the next chapter looks like is to visit. Read what customers have said on our reviews page, then come into the showroom or ask us to visit you. To arrange either, send your request through the contact page or ring the call button, and tell us what you have in mind.
